Coral ReefCoral
reef eco-systems have thrived on earth longer than the flowers, and they
too, live on sunlight. The warm climate of Roatan Island has provided
some of the healthiest coral garden to be found in the western hemisphere. Under local law these reefs have been protected as a Marine Reserve, resulting a stunning amount of fish, rays, corals and turtles. The rare black coral abounds here, as do many other rare and undescribed species.

Special to the Bay Islands of Honduras are the amazing variety of sea sponges. Almost every sponge in the hemisphere can be seen on Roatans' reefs, from Bright vases and ropes, to massive barrels. The Giant Barrel sponge can hold many divers in its' cavity. Sponges and indeed all reef life are fragile, and in showing it to our divers we encourage them to appreciate it too.

What Makes Roatan SpecialRoatan is an island of lush rolling hills. The constant action of the sea and rain has carved into the soft volcanic rock and this leaves a wealth of swim-throughs, channels and caves for the diver to explore. Moray Eels, Nurse Sharks, Lobster and shy species like the Margate Snapper favor these fantastic underwater hideouts

Popular sites such as Canyon Reef, Blue Channel, Mangrove Bite and Mary's Place with their large fissures allow divers the uncanny feeling of diving inside a living reef. As centuries of limestone carve passages for divers, delicate juveniles take shelter in the crevices.
